Jogging & Track

Greg thank you for the response it was very helpful in deciding wether to try running or not.

Now that I have been running 3 to 4 times a week for about 3 weeks now, I need help in dealing with shin pain and the worst of it all is that Iam not loosing weight.  What can I do to loose the fat/weight and what can I do for the pain?

p.s.

running 1 mile, walk 1/4 mile,  running 1/4 mile, walk 1/4mile,  running the last 1/4 mile.

I will keep my question simple.

Is jogging/running be fastest way to loose weight/body fat?

Iam 5'5 235lbs desperate to loose weight!

Any exercise (whether it be cycling, running, swimming, aerobic classes, Â… ) can be effective if you are consistent with your training and diet and you give 100% to every workout.

Having said that, Jogging/Running is definitely high up on the list. However, just because it CAN be effective doesnÂ’t mean itÂ’s the best choice for you. If you are serious about weight loss, then you need to find a routine that is not only going to be effective, but one that you can commit to. If you donÂ’t enjoy what youÂ’re doing, then over time you wonÂ’t continue with it.

Good luck!

If your shins are hurting, then ease off the running for a few weeks. Try something with less impact to condition your body (and keep the stress low) for now. The elliptical trainer, or stair master at the gym could be good for this. Swimming is great too. A nice long walk (up a hill if there's one close to where you live) is also effective. If you shins start to feel better and you start jogging again, do not alternate running and the walking. Warm up for a mile with a walk, and then jog the last mile. As you progress, you should still warm up, you just lengthen the jog.

In addition to the running, have you adjusted your diet at all?

Personally, I do not think 3 weeks is a long time to assess your weight loss, especially if you are just starting a regimen. I would suggest that you be patient, however, you should also take a good look at your diet and try to measure the amount of calories that you consume on a daily basis vs the amount that you burn ( http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/calories-burned.php ). You may need to adjust your diet in addition to exercising.
